The Experiential Route
This experiential route is ideal for professionals ready to be recognised for their expertise who have not had the opportunity to study for academic qualifications. To apply via this route you will need to contact engagement@iwfm.org.uk or call +44 (0) 1279 712 620.

Submit your application

Please demonstrate on the form below the range and depth of competencies, as defined within the IWFM Professional Standards, that you currently hold to show how you align with the membership grade MIWFM.

Once we have received your complete form your application and evidence will be examined by one of our Business Development Executives – to check that the application is complete. We will then contact you to obtain payment. Your application is then examined by one of our membership assessors. The assessors are seasoned IWFM members who hold many years of experience within the workplace and facilities management industry. Therefore, your evidence is being assessed by your peers. The assessors may well contact you to seek further information.

Your application is examined

Please note the application examination can take up to 14 working days. You can utilise your membership while this is taking place and enjoy full access to our professional grade membership benefits. However you wont be able to use any post nominals.

Once approved you will receive your membership certificate by email, and now add your post nominals to progress your career by displaying them on your business card, LinkedIn profile, email signature etc.

You will also receive an email from your region community group's chair welcoming you. This will be based on the postcode you provide.

Frequently asked questions

How long will the process take?

The completion of the application form can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 80 minutes depending on how much detail you can give. It is important to give as much detail as possible so that the assessors can understand your experience and the level in which you are working at. Once you have completed your assessment, the assessor can take up to 14 working days to review and come back with a response to your assessment. Payment must be made before your assessment will be sent to the external assessor.

What detail should I provide for my assessment?

The assessment is a competency based assessment so you should be providing detailed examples of your experience and how you have demonstrated the IWFM professional standards in your career history. The answers given should be thorough and help the assessors understand why you are applying for a specific grade. You should be writing at between 300 – 500 words for each answer given. The more detail the better.

How do I know if the level is right for me?

You should consult our membership page on the website to understand which level is right for you. The assessment is against the professional standards and what level you are working to against these. If you are unsure on the level that is right for you, you can speak to one of our advisors here: Book a call

What happens if I do not pass my assessment?

You will still be a member of IWFM and be given the relevant post nominals for the competencies that the assessor has deemed you to have achieved. The assessment fee and membership fee are both non refundable. However, our assessors will give you opportunity to expand on your assessment if they feel that there is more information you could provide to help you meet that grade. We will also provide you some forward feedback on what your next steps would be.
